B

Billing Telephone Number

A Billing Telephone Number (BTN) is the telephone number to which all telephone numbers for a customer/subscriber are charged in a consolidated telephone bill (instead of showing charges under each individual telephone number).

Blacklist

A function in Kerauno that allows administrators to completely block inbound and outbound calls for a specific telephone number and caller ID.

Busy Greeting

A greeting played to the caller when a user is on another call.

Busy Lamp Field

Busy Lamp Field (BLF) refers to an LCD button on a phone that uses a light to indicate extensions as busy or free to talk. When a BLF displays red, the extension is busy (in use). When a BLF displays green, the extension is free to talk. A BLF can be configured to watch an extension by setting the desired extension in the Value field. Pressing a BLF will dial the corresponding extension.

C

Concurrent Calling

Concurrent Calling (CC) indicates the number of people using the phone at any given time.

Customer Relationship Management

A Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system lets users store and manage prospect and customer information (such as contact information, account information, leads, and sales opportunities) in one central location.

Dial Plan

Used to control how the phone system routes outbound traffic over the trunks connected.

Direct Inward Dialing

Direct Inward Dialing (DID) is the service of a local phone company or local exchange carrier, where a block of telephone numbers for calling into a company's private branch exchange (PBX) system is provided.

Directory Greeting

A recording of a user's first and last name that is used in the company directory.

Do Not Disturb

Do Not Disturb (DND) allows a user to ignore incoming calls on all of their extensions. When enabled, incoming calls are automatically sent to voicemail.

E

Extension

An extension, also referred to as a destination, is a 3 to 5 digit identification number used to route calls to Departments, Ring Groups, voicemail, or to a specific end user. Extensions can also be assigned to workflows. An extension comprises 3, 4, or 5 digits total and is ideal for allowing organizations to maintain their current extension number structure when implementing a Kerauno system. The default setting of 4 digits allows for a wide variety of extensions. Larger organizations may consider utilizing the 5 digit format for limitless options. Note: Only one extension format can be used for each organization, which is assigned during implementation.

F

Find Me/Follow Me

Call routing feature that allows a user to redirect calls that are placed from their extension to another user or outside telephone number (e.g., mobile phone).

Firewall

A system (either hardware or software) designed to prevent unauthorized access to or from a private network.

I

Interactive Virtual Receptionist

Interactive Virtual Receptionist (IVR) is used to route callers to their desired end destination.

Kerauno Presence

Desktop Call Control Software integrated into Kerauno.

P

Parking Lot

Used as an alternative to placing a call on hold or transferring a call directly to another user.

Plain Old Telephone Service

Plain Old Telephone Service (POTS) refers to the voice-grade telephone service employing analog signal transmission/transfer over copper loops.

Playlist

Allows System Administrators to upload customized music and/or announcements to manage exactly what callers hear while on hold.

Profile

Contains information about a user.

Public Switched Telephone Network

Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) is the world's collection of interconnected voice-oriented public telephone networks, both commercial and government-owned; the aggregation of circuit-switching telephone networks. Today, it is almost entirely digital in technology except for the final link from the central (local) telephone office to the user.

Ring Group

A virtual extension that rings to multiple end-points (extensions).

S

Search Bar

Generally located in the upper-right side of the screen; allows users to enter search criteria. Names are searched against all extensions currently built into the system to find a match.

Self-Healing Voice Network

Self-Healing Voice Network (SHVN) is a voice network architecture using two or more transmission paths to withstand a failure in the transmission paths.

Short Message Service

Short Message Service (SMS) is a text messaging component of most telephone enabled systems.

Speed Dials

Used by the Kerauno system to quickly dial either internal call flows or external telephone numbers.

T

Temporary Greeting

Greeting used while on vacation, traveling, on leave, etc. When a temporary greeting is set, it overwrites both Busy and Unavailable greetings.

U

Unavailable Greeting

Played when calls to an extension go unanswered.

Username

Name assigned to the profile and is typically the user’s email.

V

Voice Over Internet Protocol

Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) is a communication protocal for transmitting telephone calls over a computer network, especially the internet.

Voicemail PIN

A Personal Identification Number (PIN) is used to access a voicemail box via a handset.

Widget

An element of a graphical user interface (GUI), such as a text box or button, that displays information or settings that can be entered or altered by the user. It can also be defined as a program that performs a simple function, such as providing a weather report or stock quote, and can be accessed from a computer desktop, webpage, or mobile phone.
